The problem

One of the oldest countries in Europe, Portugal each year enjoys millions of visitors. As of 2019 alone, 27 million tourists took a trip to the country. People tend to enjoy Portugal for its beaches, religious sites and historic monuments. Theoretically, with this much volume of tourists, hotels should have no problem attracting customers. But unfortunately, this was not the case for a boutique hotel located in the south of Portugal, who was struggling to stay afloat. This particular hotel was hard hit by the global pandemic. Hoteltechreport claims that: revenue for the travel and tourism industry in Europe decreased from $211.97 billion in 2019 to roughly $124 billion in 2020 due to COVID-19. Wanting to fix the problem, the client partnered with us to conduct a large-scale B2C survey.

Our Approach

Based on the list of the countries that the client gave us, we conducted surveys with each of the geographies, tailoring our approach to each location. As part of the research, we made sure to address customer pain points and ask for feedback in areas where the client could make changes. We completed the project within 7 days and submitted the data to the hotel.

Results

With the help of the data that we gathered and using data analytics, the boutique hotel was able to find the causes as to why it was operating at less than optimal capacity. Using tools GCID, PPC and SEO search they were able to significantly enhance their customer acquisition strategy.
